Clinical foundation posts
Foundation psychiatry posts are for 4 months and there are posts currently available in liaison psychiatry, acute psychiatry, addictions and psychiatry of older adults, with advanced plans to develop further posts rotating between academic psychiatry and neurology, medicine and paediatrics.
It is not a requirement that you intend to pursue a career in psychiatry though many foundation year trainees have chosen psychiatry following their experiences.

Academic Foundation Posts
At the Foundation Year we offer an Academic Foundation Programme post in academic psychiatry. This is a 4 month attachment in which the post holder is able to carry out full time research in an area/subject of their choosing, and with a supervisor of their choice. Opportunities exist across the entire field of psychiatry.
Further details can be found on » the London Foundation School website
Applications are competitive, and candidates will be selected after interview as part of the AFP programme. Following selection the specific AFP programme in academic psychiatry comes under the Vice Dean. Successful candidates
are encouraged to start planning their attachment as soon as possible, with advice from the
Vice Dean.
“Psychiatry at SLaM offers an unparalleled variety of cases and experience with the opportunity
