Training Programme Director: Dr Eduardo Iacoponi
The General Adult higher training scheme encompasses a wide range of posts in a variety of settings across south-east London. The rotation offers trainees a diverse range of both local and specialist units spread over five hospital sites. Given the size of the rotation we are in an ideal position to encourage trainees with specific career goals to identify and develop specific posts to meet both clinical and academic needs.
The breadth and scope of our rotation enables trainees to gain exposure to many subspecialties, examples include first onset and treatment resistant psychosis services, crisis services including triage and home treatment, liaison services including neuropsychiatry and peri-natal psychiatry, specialist inpatient units including affective and eating disorders and both inpatient and outpatient psychotherapy services . We also have strong links with the "Cinderella" specialities such as occupational medicine (liaison psychiatry and addictions) and palliative care (liaison psychiatry)
Higher trainees have protected time to attend regular » Calman training days and there is a mailing list for all adult and older adult higher trainees where information on training, courses, rotas, etc is disseminated and discussed.
There are a number of higher trainee representatives who sit on various committees trust-wide and regionally.
