Summer School

Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience

The Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience (IoPPN) offers an extremely well received and popular annual Summer School (for one week in July). It is designed to inspire and enthuse UK medical students and Foundation Year Doctors considering a career in Psychiatry.

The week is designed for medical students and there is a special focus on days 3, 4 and 5 for Foundation Year Doctors who may find getting a week off work challenging.

Speakers include leading academics and clinicians at the IoPPN including Professor Sir Simon Wessely, President of the Royal College of Psychiatrists.

The week long programme includes:

  • Key lectures on cutting-edge and controversial topics in Psychiatry
  • Seminars, discussion groups, meeting patients, debates, ward visits and a book club
  • The opportunity to meet and talk with internationally renowned experts in the field
  • CT1 application workshops
  • A drinks reception at the Royal College of Psychiatrists
  • Free home stay accommodation, if required.

What 2014 participants said:
“Wonderful experience, suddenly so passionate about psych!”
“Fascinating and engaging week, with good networking opportunities.”
“Amazing experience - really immersed us into the experience of psychiatry.”

The application deadline is circa the end of March each year
