Induction programmes are organised for all new trainees, covering an introduction to key personal within the organisations, together with introductions to the context of working within the modern mental health services and detail of practical, administrative and corporate issues, both at a local and Trust level.

Starting your first clinical psychiatry job can be daunting, and new doctors are often keen to show they can do the job though may be anxious through inexperience – with this in mind we have developed a number of initiatives to help new starters get the help they require, including:

New trainees are taught the essentials of clinical assessment and handling of psychiatric emergencies from psychological strategies to safe emergency tranquilisation and appreciation of the legal frameworks involved in ensuring patients' safety and protection of rights.
